Privacy policy

TapTheMap is a free game you can play without an account. We collect as little as possible. This page explains what is stored, why, who else is involved, and what you can do about it.

Who is responsible

The site tapthemap.fun is run by AhmedBen, the data controller for the processing described here. Contact: contact@tapthemap.fun.

What we store when you play

We do not ask for your e-mail address, real name, location or any account details. The game does not use your device's location; you place the pin by hand.

Legal basis: the player identifier, rounds, hashed IP and preferences are needed to provide the game you ask for and to protect it (legitimate interest and performance of the service). The nickname is published because you choose to add it.

How long: rounds and leaderboard entries are kept while the game runs, because they make up the all-time leaderboard. You can ask us to delete them at any time (see “Your rights”).

Advertising (Google AdSense)

TapTheMap is free because it shows ads, provided by Google AdSense.

If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, a consent message from Google asks for your choice before any advertising cookie is set. If you refuse, you may still see ads, but they are not personalised and rely on limited, non-cookie data. You can change your choice at any time:

A “Privacy and cookie settings” button will appear here once advertising is active.

Other services the page loads

To display the game, your browser downloads files from these providers, which therefore see your IP address, like any website you visit. They do not receive your scores or nickname.

Like every web server, ours keeps technical access logs (IP address, date, page requested, browser type) for security and troubleshooting. These are deleted automatically after a short period and are not used for anything else.

You can also block or delete cookies in your browser settings. If you delete ttm_pid, the game treats you as a new player.

Your rights

Depending on where you live (including under the EU and UK GDPR), you can ask to access, correct or delete the data linked to your player identifier, object to its use, or receive a copy of it. Because we don't know who you are, include your nickname and, if possible, the approximate dates you played, so we can find your rounds. Write to contact@tapthemap.fun. You also have the right to complain to your data protection authority.

Children

TapTheMap is a general-audience game. It is not specifically directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect personal information from them. Young players should not use their real name on the leaderboard.

Changes

If we change how the site handles data, we will update this page and the date at the top.
